“On the Edge of a Distant Landscape” is a series of murals painted directly onto the walls of Katsu Ramen Bar in Bucharest. The project draws on images and motifs from Edo-period Japanese art, particularly the works of Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Hiroshige and Utagawa Kuniyoshi, which I reinterpret through my own visual language. The landscapes, characters and fragments drawn from these images are transformed and adapted to the architecture of the space, so that the paintings become part of the experience of the place. Together, the works form a journey through an imaginary landscape, which the viewer enters as they move through the space.
